Vincent van Gogh was deeply fascinated by the entire life cycle of the sunflower—from the vibrant, youthful bloom to the drying, heavy heads full of seeds. Senescence Flight is named for that specific botanical transition: the stage where a flower matures and offers its beauty back to the earth.
In this piece, I’ve captured that earthy, transformative energy using a precise pointillism technique to mimic the complex textures Vincent explored in his later sunflower studies. By merging the delicate form of the butterfly with the changing stages of the bloom, I wanted to celebrate the idea that there is a profound, rhythmic beauty in every stage of life. It is a tribute to the enduring 'pure joy' found in nature’s constant state of change.
